Curacao Carnival 2018: dive AND party!

If you love to dive and party,

Curaçao's Carnival is one of the largest and longest-lasting Carnival spectacles in the Caribbean and one of the best times to visit our awesome island.

So if you're looking for awesome diving and a GREAT party atmosphere, you're in luck!

Carnival began as a Catholic rite to represent the Christian practice of “Carne Levale,” or giving up meat for Lent. These days, Curaçao continues the tradition with amazing masquerade parties and marches.

Curacao Carnival features fantastic parades, floats, costumes and characters, Carnival "royalty" elected during full-scale beauty contests, and impromptu street parties and dancin' (Jump Ins / Ups) that may run into you, unexpectedly.

Everyone is welcome to join the tens of thousands of road-side spectators enjoying the impressive, energetic and amazing array of multi-colored floats and costumes, whilst dancing to the beat of Tumba, Curacao's official Carnival music, at Curacao's biggest party of the year.

So dig out your dancin' shoes as well as your dive gear and be ready to join in:
because it's Curacao Carnival time!
(And we've got your diving covered, too...)

Carnival infoSo: some Curacao Carnival celebrations happen on planned dates....

Due to the massive size of the Parades and the sheer number of spectators and cars, major access roads in Otrabanda (where the cruise ship terminals are)(leading the Hilton and Floris Suites hotels) and the Julianna Bridge across the canal in downtown Willemstad - are closed or have limited access.

... and some just happen...

...closing off random roads for impromptu parties. Sometimes it's groups following and supporting their favourite bands, all dancing and all wearing the same t-shirts to support and promote the band, and raise money for them to participate in the "Gran Marcha" (“the Grand Parade").

It's all part of the Carnival fun but if you've got somewhere to be by a certain time - like back home after another fun day of diving with The Dive Bus -  you may have a helluva time getting through / around the crowds and roadblocks to get to where you're trying to get to.

Carnival infoSo if you're planning on diving with The Dive Bus during Curacao Carnival, check out our special Curacao Carnival dive schedule below, so you can join in the celebrations and part-ey once your diving's done for the day.

And remember to expect the unexpected at any time, for things to change all the time and... ENJOY IT!
