Beautiful ocean, beaches, dive sites + sunshine:
still tax free... for now!

We may be lucky enough to live and work on a beautiful Caribbean island, but even beautiful Caribbean islands have taxes and inflation :o(

Since Curacao took independence on 10-10-10, the Curacao government has been deliberating about increasing sales tax, particularly on 'luxory' items and services, like scuba diving :o( Whilst discussions have been on 'island-time',  the Government has been extremely fast at finalising and implementing the new rates which (we have just been informed) come into effect 1 May 2013. 

For our divers and our business, this means an increase of 3%, from 6 to 9% - which, on the bright side, is still less than most of us pay back home.
